Hewett Polytechnic

Hewett Polytechnic was originally established in Gorakhpur in 1904. In 1908, the institution was shifted to Lucknow due to its central location as the capital of Awadh. Initially operating from a rented building on Jagat Narain Road, the institute steadily progressed because of the dedication and expertise of its faculty members.

Growth and Recognition

Over time, the institution gained nationwide popularity and attracted students from regions such as the Middle East, Iran, Tibet, Bhutan, and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). In 1934, it was formally recognized by the State Government and later by the Government of India.

Funding and Infrastructure Development

Until 1957, the institution did not receive any financial assistance. Later, it began receiving grants from both the State and Central Governments for infrastructure and equipment development. In the same year, the institution moved to its own campus in Mahanagar, Lucknow, spread across approximately 45 bighas of land.

Academic Expansion

Initially offering only Civil Engineering, the institute expanded in 1958–59 to include diploma programs in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Around this time, it was renamed from Hewett Engineering School to Hewett Polytechnic.
